So... as I suspect most journals start: here is the first post. Thanks to etcher for equipping me with a code. Working from home today, alternating between looking out of the window at a leaden sky and trying to remain involved in an interminable conference call with colleagues from the UK, US, Germany and...I think.. Netherlands. Talking portals. Always a good topic for a Friday afternoon.

There were plans afoot to have some friends over for lunch on Sunday. The menu not fully devised but I was contemplating an "English" meal. Starting off with potted shrimps, then beef and ale pie, then a sort of baked pears soaked in brandy type thing and rounded off with a selection of English cheeses. Oh, and wine too. But only in excess :-)

The question is: is life too short to peel several hundred tiny shellfish?

...it's five o'clock...and it's....time for another conference call ! Woop-di-woo. Oh. It's about portals. Again.

Hurrah!

The conference call was so good that we have another one at 6:30pm.

Did someone say something about work/life balance?

Being new to this, it's sort of interesting to fill out the profile - the interests bit - cos it makes you wonder what your interests actually are... So I just added "travel" - because I enjoy travelling. I travel quite a lot with my job - not as much as I used to, but from time to time I get involved in some project that involves a spell of - usually transatlantic - travel. And I enjoy it. I like the feel of airports. Eeveryone at an airport is excited (except the people who work there) - they are either about to go somewhere or about to meet someone who has been somewhere. This is a Good Thing and I like it.

I also like travelling for fun - usually end up driving much too mcuh...not really: a two week visit to France to Cognac ends up as a marathon tour of the entire country spanning Normandy, Brittany, Cognac, the Dordogne and then - for some reason (actually because the hotel was crap) - suddenly shifting to Colliore way way down near the Spanish border...and so that means coming back through Burgundy. It's a tough life.

Uh-oh
