Jan. 20th, 2003 10:33 amWhat a busy and delightful weeked... Seem to have packed an awful lot into a very short time. This is the way weekends should be.
It began, as weekends often do, on Friday evening. I worked at home all day and - since Em was meeting up with some LJ-ers for tea and then a drink - I very (very) nobly went to Tesco to do The Shop. Well - sorta - I missed some stuff out, but I got most of what we needed. I then cooked supper - I seem to have forgotten about cooking of late - not sure why - so it was good to get on down in the kitchen. Nothing very spectacular - a sort of chicken casserole thang with onions and chilli and pinto beans. 'Twas tasty.
Saturday we drove up to London to collect some of Em's prints from the Mall Gallery and enjoyed a minor diversion round the back of the Mall when I got us slightly lost on the way home. I would like to live there. Yes. They have Residents' Parking bays in a maze of little alleyways that run between a mix of beautiful early Georgian and - what looked like - Tudor buildings at the back of the Mall. Tsk. Envy is a terrible thing. A brief stop en the way home to look at possible cars for Em - this is a very, very boring thing to do, even for me - and I am a Boy. I'm supposed to like looking at cars, aren't I? Do I have a gene problem, I wonder...?
Home and a sudden decision to reorganise the furniture. We moved - eventually - one of the sofas from the front room to the back room. This meant shifting the dining table in the back room around too. At first this seemed like it was not going to work. But after a fair amount of heaving and shifting, everything seemed to fall in to place.. It looks nice. It feels warm and comfy. It is Good.
Then out to see Chicago. Splashed out for tickets in The Gallery - but have decided that it ain't really worth the extra dosh, even if ya do get bigger and (allegedly) more comfortable seats, free popcorn and sweeties. The film was excellent - flawed - but despite that really, really good fun. I had to stop myself applauding at the end of each number - has to be a good sign.
Sunday we worshipped at the Place of Azure Waters. Got somewhat carried away and bought a DVD player as well as an assortment of Lovely Cushions for the newly re-arranged sofas. The DVD thing was actually not a complete indulgence. The theory goes like this: TV is shite and we often end up watching it for no reason other than it is there. Establishing a comfortable place to sit in the back room (see sofa moving, above) means that we are more likely to sit around in there listening to music, discussing 14th century poetry and generally being cool (but still very human and approachable, obviously). However, sometimes ya just need to watch TV - so let's buy a DVD player and some DVDs that we actually want to watch so that when we *do* zone out in front of the box it is a positive choice - rather than the televisual equivalent of a McDonalds.
We watched one of the DVDs last night: All That Jazz. It was crap. :-)
