Last night I cracked and went dancing with Em. I tried it once before - about six months ago - and really didn't get on with it, so I was (frankly) rather nervous about the whole affair. But it was FUN! I had a really good time - got to dance with some very attractive women and one bloke dressed as a woman (a new first for me). The "regulars" - actually the "newbies" too - are all very friendly and nice and I managed not to feel like an incompetent dickhead (like I did last time).
Someone even told me that I had a good sense of timing. I suspect she was being kind, but it made me feel good anyway :-) I have no delusions - I am no Diaghilev, but I hope I can modestly aspire to keeping an approximate sense of rhythym whilst not physically injuring too many people on the dance floor.
There is a whole new vocabulary to be mastered. Endearingly, women are "ladies" and men are "gentlemen"; there are "followers" and "leaders"; and then the various moves: the excitingly cuddly "First Move" - the Catapult, the Arm Jive (or possibly Harm Jive when I do it), the..errr...other one and the Push Spin...
Now..where did I put my sequinned waistcoat...?
