OK you useful and talented people - time for your help.

We are off on a road-trip to Southern Spain in August - driving down through France to the Alicante area of Spain (not sure exactly where yet - we are rendezvous-ing with Em's parents there for a couple of days but haven't yet got the exact location). The whole trip will be around 12 days.

Your task - oh wise ones - is to offer hot tips of places to see and visit in Spain and any other useful tid-bits about Spain and driving holidays therein. We know France very well, so we don't need tips for that, but this will be the first time to Spain....

Our holidays in the past have been characterised by lots of driving - lots of top nosh - nice (quiet) hotels - and a fondness for markets, medieval stuff (villages/churches/cathedrals/castles), relaxed cities (Ain-en-Provence springs to mind).

Beaches packed with lobster-red, hungover 18-30s listening to loud music and shouting into their mobiles whilst planning which club to get drunk in the following night have not generally been something we yearn for...

Over to you...

I have received the rehearsal schedule for An Ideal Husband.....urrrrrrghhhhhhh.... Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays/Sundays from 25 August to 10 October (when a week of performances begins).

That's the price you pay for being a show off, I s'pose :-)

We went for dinner last night at Chu and Cho, a tapas bar/cafe/thing in Charlton. Very nice it was too. we didn't really *want* to go out to eat you understand - but since we are off to Spain in August we felt it important to start practicing :-)

From memory we had: Chorizo in red wine; boquerrones (pickled anchovies with lashings of garlic); green olives; roasted peppers; salad; patatas with three salsas (a minty one; a tomatoey one and a garlic mayonnaisey one); bandelliras (sp.? - pickled gherkin/onion/olive type stuff on a stick); helped down with buckets of San Miguel and finished off with (for me) cafe Bombon (a heavenly mix of espresso and condensed milk) and (for herself, with me helping) a cup of melted chocolate with long thin doughnut thingies to dip into the chocolate.

Yum yum.

And all for just over £30.
