[livejournal.com profile] etcher's parents were in town last night, so I met up with them at the National. God was on our side and we got returns for The History Boys, the new Alan Bennett. It seems rather pointless to attempt a review - it's an Alan Bennett play so it was, of course, warm, funny, sad, clever, moving, thoughtful and just beautifully written. The acting was outstanding, but then with Richard Griffiths and Frances de la Tour, it would be, wouldn't it? :-)

It was a very enjoyable evening and has made me take a silent vow to make more use of the arts facilities in London. I mean if herself's parents can travel up from deepest Devon I should be able to manage it from sarf east London, shouldn't I? Inertia is a terrible thing.

Off to see Spidey II with The Girls this evening - I've seen it before but it will stand a second viewing.

Returning to work after a three week break has been hard. I'm relieved to find that I still thoroughly enjoy it (despite all the politics and crap that goes on) but, frankly, I'd much rather still be getting up at 8:30 for a bowl of cafe au lait and some warm croissants :-)
