Sep. 8th, 2004 07:50 pmIt seems like ages since I have posted. Oh. It is. Ah well.
Went to the movies on Saturday with The Girls (aged 11 1/2) to see Hellboy. Surprisingly good. Well done. Bizarre that the girls have just started secondary school. When did they grow up? Disappointingly, they are learning German, rather than French. Now I daresay that German is an extremely useful language (esp. for Germans) but I don't speak it. I was much looking forward to helping the girls with their French homework. Bugger. I shall have to buy Michel Thomas's Sprechen-sie Deutsch pronto and extend my vocabulary beyond "Where is the station" and "For you, Tommy, the war is over."
First rehearsal for Hamlet was on Sunday. It wasn't a real rehearsal, but important nonetheless. It was about fleshing out the characters behind the lines. We broke into little grouplets and talked about who we actually were and what we felt about various things going on in the play. I decided that Horatio was a minor aristo fallen on hard-ish times but solid, dependable and well-liked by pretty much everyone. Opehlia asked me - when we were presenting our "characters" to the rest of the company - if I had a "thing" going on with Hamlet. Fair question - they are *very* close friends. I decided that it was quite possible that Hamlet, confused little thing that he is, had a bit of a thing for me, but that I was being sensible and grown-up and regarding it as a phase.
First "real" rehearsal was Monday evening. Nice to be back at the theatre - there's quite a few people in the company who I have worked with before. The rehearsal went very well. Jo - the director - was very pleased: genuinely so, I think - she actually had tears in her eyes at one point. She declared that we were, on first rehearsal, where she had hoped we would be three weeks in to rehearsing. I daresay she will change her mind, but it did feel as if things were working well. Make a note in your diaries: October 15th - October 23rd at Bromley Little Theatre.
Work is good at the moment too. ( Work stuff that most will find dull.... )
