Nov. 20th, 2004 10:22 amIt's been ages since I have posted... Life has been very hectic at work and I have lost some of the rhythym of posting. Tsk. This must be addressed.
I've been working on a revised strategy paper for the Board (there - *that's* got your attention, hasn't it? I can almost hear you all thinking "Oooh - a strategy paper - this is going to be an interesting post!").
I've also spent last week in Paris, at a meeting discussing approaches to architecture. I love Paris in the autumn - it's a pity I didn't get to see any of it. La Defense is not what you might call the heart of la vie Parisienne.
I also had one of the worst meals I have ever eaten in Paris - the food was actually ok, but the combination of average food and an ambience akin to an airport snack-bar that was still under construction did not make for a memorable evening. It was at L'Atelier Renault on the Champs Elysees. I daresay it might be interesting when there is an exhibition on, but they were in the midst of constructing the Christmas exposition, so the view from the suspended platform where we were eating was of a couple of fork-lift trucks and some men in hard hats. Ah well.
We (we being a group of around 15 IT architects from around the globe) also ate at Fouquet's - also on the Champs Elysees. A much better dining experience all round - although they insisted on giving us menus in English. Now I have no problem with this, providing you get the same information. In this case (when I finally got hold of a menu in French) I discovered the English menu was sadly lacking. For example: "Mushroom fricasee" on the English menu turned out to be "Cepes, girolles (and others I can't remember) served in a champagne sauce with wild chestnuts" on the French...
The meeting was useful and productive and has given me some ideas on positioning architecture within the UK - but that is far too dull for Livejournal :-)
