Rather dull post...
Jul. 12th, 2005 07:54 pmWork today was quite good. I got up early and worked from home for a couple of hours and then headed off into the seething metropolis, miraculously timing my arrival at the station with the arrival of a train. I missed the bus from London Bridge however, and discovered that Vic Odden's has closed down. This is a nuisance, as I think I need a new battery for my camera and had been counting on them supplying one.
I caught the next bendy bus to Farringdon Street and spent a reasonable rest-of-the-day variously engaged in eating lunch (Pret tuna and salad baguette, orange juice and banana), participating in a two hour conference call on assorted dull topics, and having an update with The Boss. This was interspersed with cursing a recent software download to my PC which seems to cause it to blue screen whenever it is disconnected and re-connected to the network.
Work over, I adjourned to the pub (the astonishing Black Friars at...er...Blackfriars) for a pint with The Boss and a discussion focussing largely on things entymological (although some rodent related matters were also included) before sauntering along the Victoria Embankment to Charing Cross. My route took me through Embankment Gardens, which is the site of the memorial garden relating to the Little Local Difficulty (LLD) of last Thursday. It's a pleasant spot and I rather liked the juxtaposition of lots of hot tourists lolling in the evening sunshine with the rather sober reminder of the LLD manifested by a book of rememberance and some bouquets of flowers.
Rumour has it that some arrests have been made. If so, I'm rather impressed. The article in the Evening Standard went into slightly too much detail about how the connection had been made (think Alfredo Garcia) but - however it was done - it is rather remarkable that a connection can be made in such a short time from the site of an explosion to - variously - a car at Luton and a house in Leeds. That's science for you. Quincy would be proud.
The house is filled with the fragrant aroma of gently frying chicken, onions, and sautee potatoes. I shall add some mushrooms and a courgette in due course.
I feel relaxed. It's nice.
