I seem to have recovered from the 'flu and am celebrating by making a start on the decorating. It is going surprisingly well, so far.... I have cleared the lounge, taken down the shelves, filled the holes. Filled the Very Nast Crack where the bay window seems to be trying to leave the rest of the house behind.
I've also washed the walls with sugar soap - a task which, frankly, I have always felt a bit redundant. This time, however, I see the value of it. Maybe it's because there is a coal fire in the room - or maybe it's because the room hasn't been decorated for about 10 years - but the first wipe with the cloth revealed that the walls were actually white, rather than a light shade of charcoal grey. Hmmmm. The washing down has taken most of the day. Now I need to wash it all down again with clean water to get rid of the sugar soap and then - hurrah!!! - I can start painting. I think I'll save that for tomorrow.
I was going to take up the carpet and sand the boards too, but realised that it's very difficult to get a room sander into a small two seater sports car, so that task will have to wait for another day.
God I'm knackered.
