Aug. 22nd, 2005 08:13 pmSo..... yesterday I painted the room all over once. What a small sentence for such a long day. Although I did manage to fit in a brief visit chez
etcher where I watched her painting while I sat on the sofa, drinking tea - which was very therapeutic. I would have helped her, but (a) my muscles had siezed up and (b) she was doing the coving which needs a step ladder and there was only one and (c) I needed a rest.
I also looked at the pictures from
erialc's wedding - which were both fab and numerous.
Today I painted the room all over for the second time. I also rubbed down the skirting (which sounds like a euphemism, but isn't) and applied gloss paint to said skirting and the door and about six inches of the window sill. Door and skirting board look great; window sill needs priming or rubbing down more thoroughly, cos the paint went bobbly. So that's a job for tomorrow morning. Joy.
But... I bought an orbital electric sander from B&Q for £8.57p! I don't really need an orbital sander, but it seemed like too good a bargain to miss. It even has a cool "velcro" method of attaching the sanding...er..thingies: you just slap 'em on and they stick. Science is a wonderful thing.
Although I am very nearly crippled with muscle misery, I am pleased with the difference it has made to the room. I even cleaned the brass grate surround thingy using a Top Tip from Em: tomato ketchup (honestly!). It was a very dull, dirty green - it is now sparklingly brassy coloured! Actually, it's a bit streaky, so I shall have another bash at it with the Heinz this evening.
If anyone knows how to clean faux-marble agglommerate fire surrounds let me know. My kitchen cupboards are well stocked. I have tried anchovies, but they don't seem to work - although the cat approves. I think peanut butter may be a serious contender - it's "SunPat Crunchy" which I figure must provide the much needed abrasive qualities that anchovies, I now realise, lack.
