I haven't been able to find a mirror to go over the mantlepiece, so have re-hung the one that was originally there - it's oval, dark wood and a little bit battered around the beading, but it will do for the time-being.
The bookcase to the left of the fireplace holds the TV, DVD player, a speaker, the freeview thingies, the DVDs, my aspidistra and a banana plant. The (tall) one on the right holds the other speaker, books, two jugs and a glass bowl. I can't decide whether to reduce the number of books - I shall live with it for a while and decide in due course. The mantlepiece has its collection of buddhas back in place, as well as the assortment of odds and sods.
It looks nice.
